It’s very interesting and helpful to learn about what happens when we consume junk food vs consuming living, natural food. A long time ago when I started learning and focusing on nutrition- at first for fitness and bodybuilding, but then more about nutrition and healing- I read about the effects of sugar. There was a passage in the book that talked about sugar being shipped from the far east into Europe and how it was known to be addictive. Then I realized how it’s added to much food that’s consumed nowadays like it’s no big deal. I let go of sugar and processed carbohydrates and replaced them with fruits and vegetables. I started noticing that my body was starting to crave the fruits and vegetables- our taste buds actually change as we choose better foods. (Side Note: The Mood Cure is a great book that teaches us how certain foods (and supplements) can boost our energy and mood)
Here’s an idea to play with: If we take in junk, processed, or fast food- we get a big burst of feel good chemicals temporarily. They are foods not found in nature so there is an unnatural burst but it’s short lasting, leaving us wanting more. The next day your body wants those same feelings so you’re more likely to have those foods again. All the while they’re draining energy and harming your body/you’re gaining weight. And it should make you feel angry that there are companies creating fake foods specifically to hook people so they eat too much…. Now, what if you could eat some fruits and vegetables with olive oil or some fish, and feel that same way (clients of mine in the past and people I’ve talked to say- oh vegetables? No I can’t eat those. There is sometimes a block on natural foods from so much junk food- it just doesn’t taste ‘exciting’ enough. This changes when we slowly let go of sugar and junk and introduce high vitality foods).
So you’re deciding to increase your health and energy and heal your body. Just choosing more natural, living foods here and there can have huge effects. You start craving those foods more, making it easier to make the choice. And then you start to bring energy back and actually heal your body on many different levels. Remember that awareness of progress builds momentum- so take note of the small improvements and victories and you’ll feel more motivated.
Wishing you health and strength!
