The Healing Nature of Nature

So much is done indoors nowadays. Computer work, shopping, television, eating, working out. Many people will opt to stay inside whether its cold out, hot out, or wet out. Throughout human history, people stayed outdoors to hunt, gather, farm, and build. But now it’s different. I believe Nature can benefit our health if we connect with it.
For starters, sunlight is vital to us. We create Vitamin D when we are exposed to sunlight. Vitamin D is essential as it helps the immune system, bones, heart, and muscles. Some people say they can feel a difference when they are out in the sun. They just feel better overall energy. Open the window shades for a while and get out in the sun during the day. Your body will thank you.
I read a book once called “Go Wild”. In the book they talked about nature, specifically trees and bushes, helping to bring down blood pressure and anxiety. There are apparently chemicals that the trees and bushes give off that do this. They are a natural anti anxiety. What’s even more interesting is that even LOOKING at pictures of nature can do the same thing. They did a study where they had someone put a picture of an open landscape with trees as their desktop picture on their computer. Their anxiety levels decreased!
I believe we can link health with living in accordance with nature, and we can gain a lot by acknowledging how our ancient ancestors lived. Just being out in nature is one easy way to connect with their ways. To do this, we can opt to just be outside more. Even better, we can find open areas with grass and trees. A walk in the woods can also work wonders. There are many studies that show being in nature can help with weight loss, with our memory, concentration, and more. Get outside and see what benefits it brings you!
