St Therese is known for her Little Way- which was her way of honoring her connection with the Divine, honoring G-d and doing seemingly little things as service- it’s very inspiring. Some quotes of Mother Theresa are similar- doing simple things with great intention- something to that affect. And so many people I know or have known have inspired me in the same way, which I’m so grateful for. So you can do little things as well as bigger things- all is great work. And the intention is what matters. If you want to feel better, happier in the moment- there are many ways, one is to let go and ask “what can I give?” There are so many ways you can consider. And realize you give and receive and improve your energy and strength and of course those you give to.
10 Ways to honor YOUR connection:
Volunteer Work: One volunteer opportunity I had was called adaptive skating- We went on a skating rink with people with disabilities and helped them balance to learn to skate. Some of us weren’t great at skating so we wore shoes w/ nets, ha! We were more just an arm to hold to balance! Another rewarding experience with volunteering was as a strength and exercise coach at a Boys and Girls club. That’s in an area of my work so it was a perfect fit. You can find something that looks enjoyable, rewarding or where you can apply YOUR skills and gifts.
Donating: Whether it is donating money, time, food, or other resources- it is all good work. To feel the reward of it and know you are making a difference. It can be as simple as picking up something extra at the grocery store and putting it in a donation bin and taking a moment to reflect with intention. There are other places you can donate- one is Care USA which let’s you choose where you want your donation to go and see the impact you’re making.
Compliments: Compliment a chef at a restaurant or a baker at a bakery. Let them know you appreciate their work and they’re great at what they do. We all like to, bakers and chefs included, hear those words. At a retreat I attended, I met the chef and baker after a few days. I told him I was wondering who made the meals and how good they were- diverse and healthy. He let me know he is working on a book of bread recipes- so great to give him my compliment and hear him describe his processes and book.
Taking some time to listen, and expressing Gratitude: Take a trip to a park for a walk and some nature time- ask how someone’s day is and take a few minutes to listen. That will open up amazing conversations and you’ll consistently make great connections. And they may not have seen a smile or had anyone ask how their day is in a while- you just made their day :). And saying Thank You, I appreciate that. Showing appreciation means you are awake. You can repeat it like a mantra and let it become part of you.
Book or Book Recommendations: A book can change your life. It can lift you up and help you understand something. To give someone a recommendation based on something they’re interested in, want to learn about, or interested in- there are so many books I can reference that I’ve read over the course of my journey that are powerful- and that is a great way to give. And since the last part was about Gratitude and this one about books- I’ll recommend “Grateful Heart” By David Steindl Rast. And of course sharing insights that would be helpful for someone.
A Creative Gift: A creative gift says a lot- Use your intuition and create something for someone. A gift back with some useful things, a calendar with their favorite pictures, a poem or letter- one gift I gave recently to some people was High Vibration trail mix- all different ingredients, pretty unique ones, all with a lot of nutritional benefit. Those are just some examples– get creative, you can do it.
Send A Photo: A photo of something someone would be inspired by, appreciate or has a lot of meaning. This can lift someone up. A picture of nature scenery- being in Nature calms us and makes us feel great, and even PHOTOS of Nature have an effect in the same way. I came across snow sculptures as well as sand sculptures and sent pictures to people- they were made with such skill and detail.
Laughter: I took a sketch comedy class- I recommend it and I’ll probably do another one. It was the best thing- so many funny sketches came out of it. And I realized just writing out a sketch and sharing it and having people laugh as they shared theirs was such a gift. One sketch of mine was “My cousin the rapper” which hit pretty well. So especially when it seems tough to laugh- maybe that’s the best time to just let go and laugh.
Prayer Or Positive Affirmation: This is a way to honor and give- well wishes, good words and a prayer can help in so many ways. May we all experience equanimity and peace of mind… A simple aspiration like that is powerful. Your practice is yours- you can honor yourself and others in any way that is right for you. A simple “great work, keep it up” is encouraging for us.
And remember to give to yourself: That’s first. Fill your cup, let it be filled and go from there- learning to do that is important- for some it’s a huge shift in understanding. A lot of content shared on RejuvenateThis.com can show you ways to do just that- to let go of what should be, heal and feel good. One on one coaching will give you guidance and tools in the areas of Nutrition, Movement, and other practices for your goals in energy and healing. Book your sessions here.
So those are some examples you might be inspired by. Remember that when you want to feel happier in the moment, things like water, movement, sunlight, deep breathing of fresh air- Chi/Prana- these all help and more. And one SIMPLE act of giving with great intention will make a huge difference.
I hope that is inspiring for you and you can incorporate it into your day as you see and feel the benefits. It’s really an amazing thing.
Wishing you health and strength,
Ryan
