Above is a picture of some of the supplements I take. They’re all meant for rejuvenation purposes. I spent years, 10+ dedicated to heavy lifting and bodybuilding. Understanding bodybuilding and bulking each fall/winter, cutting each spring/summer. In the midst of all this, I took many supplements. All different kinds. Pre workout, intra workout, post workout. I tried prohormones twice, but my cycle was cut short each time- a sign I took to stick to natural as much as possible. I made great gains and went from weighing around 170lb to over 200 at times. However, I wasn’t paying enough attention to what overtraining and what some of these supplements were doing to my body. The simulants and additives in some of them… wow. Read the labels. Aside from that I was taking in processed foods, beer, substances at times. Everything we put into our bodies counts. Eventually my body said no more and between that and unhealed trauma, I experienced adrenal burnout on several occasions. I was forced to learn about healing. (So I began with lifting, personal training, then nutrition, and then overall healing.) This was also what prompted me to explore and study Eastern ideas.
I continued lifting but slowly practiced listening to my body. A while back my chiropractor told me I should pull back with lifting heavy for a while, all together. Part of me wanted to keep pushing it even if my body was saying no. But remember, our body holds wisdom and we should listen.
I believe rejuvenation and healing starts with listening to our bodies. If it’s time to rest for a while, then yes, let’s do that. If it’s time to cut out stimulants like pre workouts or coffee- depleting vital energy, then yes, let’s replace that with some functional mushrooms or green tea. If we need a technology fast and to meditate more, great. Give yourself permission to listen.
Some of the books I read early in my journey were ones like “Go Wild” and “The Mood Cure”, these can help us tap into something more regarding healing.
I’ll be taking time away from technology, except for work here. Time in nature, running, reading, writing. And practicing gratitude. Thank you for reading. One step at a time. Wishing you health and strength!
