“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet, and cause and prevention of disease.” – Thomas Edison

Your body heals naturally. It’s amazing to recognize that and even ask the question, “how?” or “who or what is the intelligence”- that can help us understand some deeper truths. And that can lead to massive Gratitude. If you had a cut on your arm and you did what was needed in creating the right environment for healing- it would just heal. You’re not going in, messing with it, analyzing it, thinking about it, or giving it a label right? You just take a couple steps and let it heal. It’s the same with everything else.

The word “medicine” comes from our human ancestors- and ancient and natural healing. If you look at the root, or etymology of the word (etymology being a great area to study to learn the root of words and understand more of the essence and energy of them), you’ll see that the “med” in medicine means to CURE or HEAL. The question to ask yourself is this- can anything unnatural, outside of nature, heal or cure? The answer is no. And will cause harm. There is toxic by products, side effects, and the body and cells don’t know what to do with it all because it’s not of nature- your ancestors did not take in anything outside of nature for thousands and thousands of years- so stress is caused of course. Aside from that, to take in anything that artificially changes and tampers with things, causes a cascade effect. Everything is in balance, and tampering with one area, affects everything else. It’s crucial to really, really know that. And also you might say something like- helpful words, encouragement, gratitude- these are all “good medicine”, right? because they’re words that do actually heal and cure.

The word pharmacy originates from, I believe “pharmakeia”- which can relate to a healing OR poisonous herb or substance. So nature was our ancestors pharmacy, and it’s yours now- and it’s important to know if an herb or berry is poison or healing. The word also comes from roots involving other words that very blatantly show you what that whole system is all about.

Here are some examples of natural medicine- healing.

Herbs like Ashwagandha which can help with many things including adrenal support- mushrooms like Reishi and Lion’s Mane, and real food. Essential Amino Acids. These are pre cursers to neuro chemicals- feeling great and motivated and strong. They also build muscle. Fatty Acids– sardines and other wild caught fish, avocado, nuts/seeds, grass fed butter- and eggs with choline, protein and cholesterol- which is needed for many things in our body including Testosterone. I wrote some lyrics and they go like this “Letting Chi Flow, Get Aminos/ No alcohol or vino/ No junk food like: cheetos or doritos, or fritos/ leave it all alone, more Greens though/ And Fatty Acids, dont be passive/ See absurdity and take action/ The change could be massive/ Feeling much more calm and placid.. and that’s it. Words to remember some key foods for rejuvenation.

Filtered water– and you can add sea salt to get essential minerals. We need 91 of them. Fruits and vegetables with vitamins, antioxidants and polyphenols that protect and heal. Supplementing with Vitamin D and getting Sun (that giant fireball in the sky that just gives us warmth and vitality all day long. Ha, Gratitude)- Vitamin D helps us with immune system, bones, and testosterone (make sure you are doing things to keep it healthy). Turmeric is a very great anti inflammatory. Magnesium.

Healing and Uplifting Words from your spiritual path or religion- or appreciating the wisdom in the different traditions and realizing what they are showing you. Buddhist teachings can be very helpful and especially the Precious Human Birth story which can bring you a deep feeling of Gratitude. Books by Thich Nhat Hanh and Pema Chodron, and books like the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying. The Baghavad Gita is a great Hindu text that contains so much wisdom. Lessons from the Bible that can help us in so many ways- helping you connect with G-d or your higher power. The words and wisdom in these and so many other great traditions can help you feel supported knowing you are part of an amazing human family and many wise teachers. I had a big revelation one night- I had just read a chapter of a book on different Saints. I was reflecting on how we are all connected and even thinking of history and the thousands of wise people and teachers who have delivered amazing gifts. I felt so blessed and connected. And the words we read of these different traditions are of higher vibration- meaning much more empowering and helpful that what you might pick up during the day from other sources… hmmm. Turn off screens.

Walking in Nature. When you walk in nature, you are walking in a balanced and harmonious environment. Your body reflects that and can balance and feel calm. And we also take in what are called “phytoncides” or maybe also “terpines”– these are chemicals that trees and bushes have as protection, that when we breathe them in- they calm our system and bring an alert present state. Miraculous right? Pine trees put out “Pinene”, so next time you’re walking near one, slow down and do some deep breathing. Walk in nature often- get the sunlight, fresh air and chi, see the colors, look for things, feel the earth beneath you and hear the birds.

Stretch, meditate, body tap. A type of very helpful dynamic meditation is body tapping. I learned this from a Korean Healing Practice and it is very useful for FEELING your body and letting your energy just do what it does. Keeping attention on the sensations and essentially letting energy move from up top, through your whole body. It’s great for grounding. You can also do walking meditation- Thich Naht Hanh taught a lot about this practice. And silent meditation.

Express. However YOU want to. Traditional Chinese Medicine– and probably many other traditions- teach that to heal or become stronger, we must let energy flow. Chi, energy, otherwise known as Ki, Prana- it is meant to flow to where it needs to go. If you feel stuck, stifled, blocked- it’s probably because chi is not flowing properly- so physically stretch or massage, get some movement in to get blood flow, and feel an emotion as it comes up and LET it show you and teach you. Let it move through and just be- do not block.

So express through sprinting, jumping or lifting (your ancestors did that all the time. Do it when you can), movement, tapping, shaking, singing, doing artwork, speaking, writing, laughing. It doesn’t matter, just express. And if you ever feel “de-pressed”- what would be the opposite? EX-PRESS.

Trauma Healing. Everything listed above- Allowing the unwinding and healing of trauma can bring you strength and incredible wisdom. Even taking time for yourself to just feel and be honest about it, or anything- can help it untangle. There is a book I reference at times called the Body Keeps the Score. Work by Peter Levine is very helpful and Irene Lyon who has studied with him I believe. To understand and take it one step at time, having compassion for yourself.

Peace- and I’m wishing you health and strength.
