Is There A Best Diet? How About Mindful Eating?

I hope you’re well-

Just like any area of study or discussion, when it comes to Nutrition there are so many ideas. I have coached over 100 people for fitness and nutrition and other areas. But when it comes to Nutriton someone might say it’s best to be vegan, vegetarian, lacto, pesca, carnivore, omnivore, fruitivore, air breather, you name it. You can also look into the best way to eat based on blood type or where your ancestors were from. I can see how that could be interesting and helpful. And depending on daily activities- that would change things of course. But if you ate one way vs the another, would it make a huge difference? What if it is actually connected to something else that would affect you even more?

The Blue Zones ways of eating are based on how many of the worlds oldest people, with very little if any chronic disease eat. I would notice if I watched a video about it, that people would comment and I’d see a lot that would say things like “My aunt and grandmother lived to be 105. They didn’t eat like that, they ate…” And it would be not so healthy. And of course it’s not just what you eat- so much more comes into play.

TAKING SOME TIME FOR MINDFUL EATING

But what if it’s this other practice or understanding that would make a much bigger difference? What if as long as it’s all natural it’s good and then- how mindful we are while eating. You might not think much of it, but recognize this: If you are eating some healthy food, but you’re clicking around on the phone, watching tv, all types of noise, negatively or downward pointing words and topics. So the mind is running with all this noise and the body is stressed- how much healing is happening while eating the healthy food? Can the body take in and use all the nutrients? As opposed to slowing down – and really tuning to and feeling deep gratitude to the meal. Thanking the Creator or Life itself/ Nature. And allowing yourself to go more into it- I am grateful for the farmers who grew this food. The drivers who transported it. The packagers and store clerk. Really letting it land and feeling it. Just slowing way down and really showing yourself what’s there. This puts your mind/body at ease and relaxed and ready to take in the nutrients.

So it may or may not make a big difference- but feel it out. And one way of eating might be better for you, or it may change overtime. But take some time to shut off all the screens- yes the one you’re on- and feel Gatitude for your next meal. And practice as often as you can anyway. I promise you it’ll bring you benefit.

Keep going, step by step. I’m wishing you health and strength.

Peace.
