One area of healing that might inspire and motivate you is recognizing that although it’s a difficult process and trauma is painful, healing brings incredible results and gifts. Even subtle shifts in understanding, or letting go can bring you a lot of joy.
Trauma causes a response in the human system- fight, flight, or freeze. These responses can become very quick to trigger if there was severe trauma or multiple. If certain environments caused that cascade effect- essentially adrenaline and cortisol, and if we don’t work with it, know how to, or have the right support- it can become very familiar. And from a nature standpoint- if you are in a freeze response, you would not want to make any noise, right?
So that can all effect connections. You might see someone wearing a cool shirt and want to just say “hey, that’s a cool shirt!”. But the nervous system may be assessing and send signals that expressing, connecting, showing emotion is not safe. And obviously that’s just your system doing it’s job way too well- so you can thank it.
If you continue working compassionately with yourself, keep learning, and getting support, reminding yourself of your worth and greatness, you’ll notice shifts and growth in incredible ways. I enjoy interesting, helpful, enlightening conversations- who doesn’t? “How’s the weather”, “How was the game?”- those are cool too, but I mean the ones that are inspiring and outside the box. I met a couple recently- one had been a neuroscientist and one was a health coach. Right away we started talking about some awesome stuff. Hearing about the most interesting things he’s learned as a neuroscientist and then sharing what I’ve learned as a trainer, coach and what I’ve learned about healing. And connecting the different ideas. So refreshing.
I can reflect on incredible moments like that and so many conversations with people since I began my journey. These happen all the time. I recognize that I would not have connected or been able to talk about such interesting topics if I hadn’t started working on healing.
So meet yourself with compassion and understanding and keep at it, one step at a time. Take note of your progress and give yourself the right credit.
SOME COOL FACTS AND THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT NATURE TO INSPIRE YOU:
Some trees and bushes send out chemicals that connect with us humans and actually calm our nervous system. They also enhance the immune system. I also recently learned from a book I’m reading about a type of bacteria that goes into the air in the forest after it rains. When we breathe it in, it makes us awake and present… clarity. It’s a way of nature saying- the ground is wet, good time to plant crops. Aside from that, we know that feeling, smelling, seeing, and hearing- also tasting if you come across blueberries- in nature, balances us in so many ways.
Here is another interesting thing to learn about nature. Actually it’s absolutely mind blowing: There are plants that can HEAR a caterpillar eating a nearby plant, and send out defense chemicals to stop the caterpillar from eating it’s own leaves. There is also a plant that can send out chemicals to attract a CARNIVOROUS animal to chase away an herbivore nearby. That is nature, the same intelligence that you are.
Wishing you health and strength. Peace.
