Hello, I hope all is well!

We know that certain types of foods are beneficial in specific ways. For instance, Protein helps with muscle rebuilding and berries are filled with antioxidants that are protective for us. We may have also heard that we should incorporate different colored foods into our diets. The different colors are a signal to us that the fruit/vegetable contains certain types of nutrients, vitamins, and phytochemicals which benefit us in different ways. It’s incredible to stop and think that nature/G-d gives us all of those different types of foods that nourish us in different ways.

It’s important to get these fruits and vegetables in our diets. They are very protective. They also contain fiber. They’re filled with vital energy, chi, that can nourish our systems and help us feel energized. In particular, RED fruits and vegetables are said to be very beneficial for our hearts, cardiovascular system/blood flow.

I recently spoke with someone who said she takes beet root powder as a supplement. It helps her feel energized all day. Beet root powder contains nitrates, which convert into nitric oxide- so beets are vasodilators, helping with blood flow. When blood is flowing, oxygen and nutrients are getting everywhere they need to go to nourish, repair, heal. And in eastern traditions, I have read that blood and chi are very connected- where the chi may give the strength for blood to flow to where it needs to go. Other than that, remember to get up often, especially if you work at a desk. And if you’re sitting too long in general, just get up and walk, stretch, move to improve blood flow.

The red color of fruits and vegetables signal to us that they contain lycopene and anthocyanin. Lycopene is an antioxidant that helps to improve heart health and protect against certain conditions. Anthocyanins are a group of antioxidant so they’re also protective and help with cardiovascular health. Anthocyanins can also be found in foods that are red/dark red/purple/black in color.

So to take a step in improving blood flow and health, incorporate some red foods- red apple, red onion, red berries, tomato, watermelon (they also contains citrulline, which is a vasodilator!). Those are some of my favorites. You can also utilize beet root powder for it’s vasodilating benefits. And again, take notice of when you’re sitting too long and just get up and move- you’ll feel better and improve your energy.

Wishing you health and strength.
