From substances, to coffee, to tv, computer, social media, everything- there are many distractions out there. These things cause big spikes in energy which cause a hook. And by comparison, other, more natural, healing things just aren’t as attractive. In this article I’d like to point out the benefits of letting go of an addiction/distraction and feeling seemingly simple things that bring joy.
I’ll use this example: If you are used to 5 cups of coffee a day, why would a great view of nature be attractive? Your body is saying “this doesn’t excite me like the coffee does so who cares”. You might miss so many things that are there that you can feel grateful for. What you’ll realize when you pull away from something that hooks you, is that nature and other seemingly simple things fill you with wonder. More and more you’ll have moments of inspiration and presence as you look at what’s in front of you.
You’ll notice small things like interactions, holding a door or someone holding a door for you, writing a gratitude list, meditation, prayer, offering something for someone- all of these feel good and set off a chain reaction. You’ll also notice how you relate to yourself and others is a little different.
The benefit is that you are then feeling joy through productive things instead of destructive. Things that are always available and increase your energy. This can be huge for healing and rejuvenating.
I recently went on a retreat to upstate New York- I learned a lot and connected with a lot of cool people. Updates coming soon!
From a verse that I wrote: “Nature might heal your wounds on a deep level. Leaning into some pain might make the heat settle.”
Thank you for reading. Wishing you health and strength!
Over caffeinating is a big problem with my students. They can’t pay attention to their own bodies, let alone nature. Thank you for you insights. I’ll share these with them.
Thanks for reading- yeah caffeine can be a tough one but slowly the hook can be taken out. Good luck, take care!
