I hope you’re great. I recorded a short talk on feeling good naturally, raising our mood and energy. Feeling more calm or more optimistic more often. So here is an article that will help you learn and apply ways to feel better… all naturally. These are all things that have helped me in so many ways and they can benefit you as well. First section, Nutrition:
NUTRITION
We have to give our bodies the raw materials they need to heal and repair. When we put in the right raw materials, we feel better. So first, as a foundation, let go of anything processed, junk, high sugar, additives, etc. ALL of those substances will drain your energy and make you feel worse. As you let go of those and incorporate just Natural food overall- you’ll feel better in a short time. There are specific foods you can learn about (The Mood Cure can teach you about Good Mood Foods and Bad Mood Foods) but we’ll keep it simple: Make sure to get enough Protein (many Amino Acids are the raw materials of feeling great- Tryptophan, Phenylalanine which creates Tyrosine for Dopamine- so that’s JOY and Motivation. Healthy Fats (Avocado, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Nuts/Seeds, Eggs) and Fruits/Vegetables especially Dark Leafy Greens. Having a salad and adding olive oil is a winning combination.
For liquid, stick with filtered or spring water, add some sea salt for minerals in the morning. And then have some Green Tea or herbal teas. Green Tea has Theanine in it which is an Amino Acid that is a precursor to GABA, which helps us feel CALM AND CENTERED. If you take in a lot of caffeine, start cutting it down and minimizing it- as that turns on the stress response and depletes energy.
Some words of mine that can help: “What’s the best diet, Vegan or Carnivore? Or Vegetarian we got a lot to explore, listen to your Body and nature will tell you then, just make sure it’s natural, protein and fat, carbohydrates and fruits and veggies, make sure to take walks and move the energy, stay hydrated, Spring Water with Sea-Salt, and when your body needs it, allow it to de-tox”
GUT HEALTH– This is huge- when your gut is healthy here’s what happens: A large percentage of Dopamine and Serotonin is produced: meaning joy and motivation! Energy can be extracted from the foods you eat. Many vitamins are synthesized by gut flora and they defend against pathogens. So letting go of anything artificial- junk, processed, additives- all of these disrupt that amazing gut of yours– and the irritation causes stress (it’s okay, just a signal saying “let’s make a change”) which will drain energy and lower mood. So let those go and you will feel better. Even just one simple step, one adjustment toward gut health.
GRATITUDE
Gratitude in the morning, during the day and at night will help you slow down and appreciate- and tune into what we’re grateful for. The more you practice the more you’ll realize how much there is to be grateful for and you can tune to it whenever you need to. It builds joy and is very healing. The Buddhist story of the Precious Human Birth is great to anchor us into gratitude. It is said that the chances of being human, of you being you, are the chances of a blind turtle popping it’s head up in the ocean for air and coming up through the one ring that is floating out there. Gratitude.
SERVICE, GIVING
If you are oriented toward giving in huge ways, great- keep growing that. And you can give in seemingly small ways, which are actually huge as well. The story of St. Therese of Lisieux teaches us of her “Little Way”. I believe she was part of a convent and felt like due to health conditions she couldn’t have the impact that these other nuns were having who she saw as powerhouses of serving. So she began doing seemingly little things that would honor G-d and it became her “Little Way”. In the same way, right now you can give in many ways that seem small but are huge. Talking with someone at a park- smiling and opening up a conversation and sharing helpful things. That makes a big impact. Giving a book recommendation for someone if they mention something their working on- “here, this book really helped me understand a lot about that”. The work you do, or your art. All of these are ways of giving which help us feel joy, motivation, connection.
EXERCISE
We need movement. Different types and that may change over time. The main idea is that your body will never say “just sit still all day”- that would drain you and make you feel worse. I also learned over a long, stubborn period of time that too much exercise and lifting when the body is saying to stretch and heal and change it up- that can cause a big drain in energy and low mood. So LISTEN to your body- if you are getting high intensity workouts, great- if it’s fun, even better- and if it’s with people, that can be great too. And if you need time to heal and do things like walking or jogging, stretching, Tai Chi, Qi Gong- these are all considered soft or rejuvenative exercises and perfect when we need it. So practice listening to your body.
NATURE TIME
Nature is healing. Pinene and many other chemicals that trees and bushes give off actually calm our nervous systems. When it rains, we can walk in nature and breathe in a bacteria that helps us to feel calm and focused. Getting sunlight, feeling the Earth beneath you (bare feet if you can), hearing the wind on the trees and the birds, and seeing all the colors- these all help us feel better and lift our mood. Practice technology fasting and get some time in nature!
PRAYER AND MEDITATION
Prayer and Meditation essential. However you honor that connection, take quiet time, and remember you’re part of something amazing- an extension of something miraculous- that’s you. That alone can help you feel supported and let go of a lot- which is healing and helps us feel better.
I hope that benefits you in so many ways. Take one or two of the areas and work with it as you feel you can- write down and as you notice improvements, really feel it- that’s how we learn and stick with it. Wishing you health and strength.

Peace.
