The root chakra is associated with grounding- root. When we feel grounded and rooted, there is more calm and focus. When we think of the root chakra, it’s connected to physicality, again- grounding, and things like connection with Self and others. When balancing or strengthening the root, it is said that certain foods assist in that, and other foods can cause more imbalance. And some movements can assist as well. We’ll start with Nutrition:

Foods that will help you feel more grounded are mainly root vegetables and herbs and foods high in Protein which is grounding. Some say that the chakras, from bottom to top are nourished and balanced by foods of their color- the root being RED- so tomatoes, raspberries, red peppers, etc. Otherwise ROOT vegetables are grounding- some Sweet Potato action, Carrot, Turnips, Yucca and Garlic- these last two being great pre biotics. Also Ginger and Turmeric root. These are all anti inflammatory as well. You can chop these all up and cook with some water or bone broth for extra protein- warming and grounding meal great especially in colder months. Aside from this, be sure to get enough of the building blocks for calming, GABA!

There are so many exercises we can do as well that are grounding. More rejuvenative exercises of Chi Gong can be very grounding and balancing- especially outdoors in nature feeling Earth under your feet. Sitting in a squat position and holding it, with our without weight. This also stretches your back and calves. Weighted squats as well. The root is also of course associated with Legs. General stretching and deep breathing, very calming and grounding. Body tapping, specifically Belly Tapping helps us balance out energy by dropping into our core.

You can utilize these principles for grounding and improving energy and reducing anxiety. These are areas you can learn about and improve on through coaching.
