Breaking The Freeze Pattern

When we feel stuck or overwhelmed, we use certain methods to try to break free of it. Some ways are just distracting and numbing, and some actually give you an advantage and change your energy. Sometimes the stuck feeling or freeze pattern is rooted in trauma- the typical response is a freeze of the body and the thinking mind takes over. Each time we decide to do something to change our state, we strengthen ourselves. It’s like pulling energy back to ourselves in a way. And there are many ways you can break the freeze pattern- cold shower, shaking your body, dancing, chanting, exercise, walking. All of these will give you power and send the signal that you are taking action.

All it takes is a self reminder- mindfulness. ” Any time I’m feeling a typical freeze response I’m going to choose to move my body or just break the pattern in some way.” You might notice you feel more refreshed or clear or like you’ve let go of the thinking mind a little bit which opens up space.

One thing about working with the freeze response is that you might notice your self talk become more positive. Suddenly it’s more like- oh yeah, I CAN do this, I am worthy, I can let that go. A lot of times if there is negative self talk it’s a survival mechanism and a way of keeping you small or from speaking up- let’s say in a work situation. If you learned when you speak up or express yourself there is backlash and it’s invalidated or anger starts coming at you- negative self talk would keep you from being authentic and expressing yourself. That can cause damage and affect you in many ways. The energy there is way off. Remember you’re human and you can stand up and emote and express.

Focus on you. Get stronger this year. Be focused on your mission so you can let go of things that might be pulling you down.

Wishing you health and strength. Little by little, you got this.
