Appreciating Silence And Stillness

When it comes to healing and rejuvenation, I feel there isn’t a destination- but rather a process. There are pieces that come together and greater understanding and everyone’s path is different. There are two studies/contemplations that have been huge for me in the past years. These are the teachings of Buddhism and teachings of Christianity.

I have always- as far back as I can remember, been interested in the different spiritual/religious paths and where they come from. And I always saw that there are commonalities that should be seen and appreciated- like they all came from the same root. With Buddhism and Christianity- and the others, there is an importance on prayer and meditation. Practicing these can bring clarity and help untangle different parts of your inner experience. That’s a big part of healing and rejuvenation.

I have an app called Plum Village- the name of Thich Nhat Hanh’s retreat and meditation center. The app has recorded guided meditations- to help you appreciate the stillness and silence within. I also have an app called the King James Bible- which gives bible verses and commentary on them. Both these apps remind me to stop and appreciate meditation and prayer. Aside from apps- utilizing books is huge.

Each time we want to distract ourselves, we can realize we have the choice to slow down and be in touch with that stillness. I feel that this leads to greater understanding and positive change. I also have experienced that in that space, gratitude springs up.
