3 Ways To Improve Mood And Energy During Winter Months

Everyone experiences a dip in energy and mood during the colder months. Some more than others. There are many reasons for this, but overall it’s just nature. And it can be very easy to feel that dip and look to sweets or coffee to temporarily raise energy and/or mood. This can feel like the solution but its just temporary and can drain our energy even more. Here are three ways to work naturally to improve mood and energy during this time. (And think of it as building your energy reserves or reservoir of energy, as opposed to a quick fix boost).

  1. Nature. I mention this a lot because it’s so powerful. Just getting out into sunshine and around the trees, grass, and birds is healing. It helps recharge your energy system and replenish your battery. Go Wild is a great book to learn about nature and health- they mention the fact that trees and bushes give off gases that actually act as anti anxiety for humans. Very interesting.
  2. Food Intake. Here I’ll mention focusing on building Chi or Life Force. Living foods, superfoods, herbs, and medicinal mushrooms can all help build your chi. When your chi is stronger, you are more likely to get outside and move and you feel replenished.
  3. Stretching And Breathing. You can do a yoga class, or just stretch and breathe on your own. In Eastern Medicine, they talk a lot about energy meridians or channels that run throughout the body. These can be blocked due to things like injury or trauma, toxins or unhealthy foods. One way to help the chi flow better through them is with deep breathing and stretching.

No matter where you’re at, I believe you can rejuvenate and heal- wishing you health and strength!
